Conor McGregor is undoubtedly the biggest star in the world of combat sports but how would the Irishman transition in to the world of professional wrestling?

Pretty good according to one of World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) top women superstars.

Fellow Irish native Becky Lynch believes WWE is a natural fit for the brash, but charismatic former UFC champion - there is just one potential stumbling block.

"If he gets out of custody," Becky Lynch joked during a media event in New Orleans ahead of WrestleMania 34.

Lynch was referring to McGregor's recent brush with the law after he gate-crashed a UFC press conference and attacked a van containing other fighters.

Video footage of the fracas on social media showed objects being thrown at the van, and a number of people were injured by glass fragments as windows were smashed.

UFC fighter Michael Chiesa was injured in the incident, leaving the American off Sunday's (NZT) UFC 223 event.

Chiesa has filed a lawsuit against McGregor for damages.

Lynch has links with MMA; her current boyfriend is UFC bantamweight Luke Sanders.

The former Smackdown women's champion said McGregor should have respected the fact he was messing with the livelihood of his fellow fighters.

"I'm dating a fighter so I know the hard work that goes into that," she explained.

"I know they don't always have fights regularly and there's injuries and if you're not working, you're not getting paid and things like that."

However Lynch does agree that the 29-year-old is tailor made for the WWE.

"He would absolutely be a success. He is WWE," Lynch told Newshub.

"A lot of his influence, a lot of his popularity and success is from taking elements of pro-wrestling and putting them into his UFC character and persona you see.

"It's elevated him to be the biggest start the UFC has ever had and it's taking our business and putting it on the map.

With former UFC women's champion Ronda Rousey making her WWE debut on Monday (NZT), the spotlight of the combat sports world will be shined on the Superdome in New Orleans to see how the former Olympic medallist adjusts to professional wrestling.

Rousey joins the likes of Brock Lesnar, Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn and Tito Ortiz as former MMA stars turned sports entertainers.

Lynch sees the potential for more to follow.

"When you look at something like WWE which has such a big spotlight and it's got that athleticism and the fight and everything they love in maybe a more controlled environment, I think anybody would look at that and want to be involved

"But It's a completely different niche and it takes a lot of time to be great at it."

WrestleMania 34 will be streamed live on the WWE Network and broadcast live on Sky Arena.
