Former All Black fullback Fergie McCormick has died, aged 78, after a battle with throat cancer.
The Canterbury stalwart made a record 222 appearances in his beloved red-and-black jersey between 1958-75, scoring 1297 points.
He also played 16 tests for the All Blacks between 1965-71, touring South Africa in 1970, before being dropped after a first-test loss against the 1971 British Lions.
He set a world record of 24 points in a test against Wales at Eden Park in 1969 and has been rated by many experts as among the greatest fullbacks to pull on the black No.15 jersey.
