Shot put legend Dame Valerie Adams has produced her worst-ever finish at an international athletics meet.
The 33-year-old finished eighth at the Diamond League event in Shanghai on Sunday morning (NZT).
Adams could only manage a best throw of little more than 18 metres, well below her season's best of 18.70 from the Commonwealth Games last month, and nearly two metres behind winner and world champion Gong Lijiao of China.
Her previous worst placing was a seventh at the Athens Olympics in 2004, while she was fifth at an event in Paris in 2015.
"It was a little bit average, but I'm happy to be back on the circuit," Adams said, in a video posted to social media.
The Kiwi is still searching for her best form, after taking 2017 off for the birth of her first child.
She's previously won five of the eight total Diamond League shot put titles since its inaugural event in 2010.
