Former Blackcaps skipper Brendon McCullum and pace bowler Tim Southee have helped Bangalore Royal Challengers to a 14-run victory in the Indian Premier League.

McCullum made 37 runs off 25 balls and Colin de Grandhomme chipped in a 10-ball cameo of 23 runs to guide the Daniel Vettori-coached Challengers to 167-7 off their 20 overs.

De Grandhomme smashed three sixes in the final over to provide the winning edge.

In response, Mumbai Indians fell 14 runs short, with Southee bowling tightly for figures of 2-25 off his four overs.

The result keeps the Challengers alive in the competition, with a record of three wins and five losses.
