LeBron James was not at his best but still produced a triple-double to guide Cleveland Cavaliers to an NBA playoffs semi-final series win at Toronto Raptors.

James posted 26 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds in 46 minutes on court as the defending eastern conference champions edged game one 113-112 in overtime.

JR Smith scored 20 points and Kyle Korver added 19 for Cleveland, who never led in regulation but came up big when it mattered most.

Jeff Green had 16 points while Tristan Thompson contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds for the fourth-seeded Cavaliers.

DeMar DeRozan scored 22 points and Jonas Valanciunas recorded 21 points and 21 rebounds for the top-seeded Raptors, who struggled to find the basket down the stretch.

Toronto's Fred VanVleet missed a potential winning three-pointer with 3.4 seconds left in overtime.

Game two is Friday in Toronto.
