The New Zealand Breakers have signed their first import player heading into the new ANBL season, 6’4 American swingman Armani Moore.
Originally from Swainsboro, Georgia, the 24-year old brings plenty of international experience to New Zealand.
Moore played his college basketball at the University of Tennessee then attempted to lace up with the best in the business, trying out at the NBA Summer League, but went undrafted.
This saw him moving to Europe having a stint in Poland in 2016 where he won a title with Zielona Góra and most recently been in Germany with EWE Baskets Oldenburg
Breakers Coach Kevin Braswell’s wasn’t short on compliments for his new signing, who he believes will fit perfectly in his system with his unique versatility.
"What I was looking for a guy who could come in, do anything you ask him to and anything you need him to," Braswell said.
"He can play all the way from the point guard position to the forward position, and he can defend like no other.
"Once we started watching his film, we knew he was the right person we were looking for,” Braswell told Newshub.
Moore shares the excitement, and looks forward to playing in front of the electric crowds at Breakers games;
"I have heard a lot of good things about the Breakers, things like it’s always a great crowd at the games and people really come out to have fun and support the team which is something I value," Moore said.
Braswell even delivered one of the highest compliments a Basketball player could receive, comparing him to two time NBA super-star and Golden State Warriors forward, Draymond Green.
"He does all the little things that may not show up on the box score, and then there are times where he’ll have his 20 and 25 point games. He does a lot."
Moore touched on the tenacity he brings to games, and isn’t short of passion.
I would say being able to bring heaps of energy to the court, as well as being a team player in every aspect. I’m a competitor. I rebound and play very aggressive defence as well as knocking down open three-pointers."
The signing of Armani Moore takes the New Zealand side to nine, with two more import spots to fill in the coming weeks.
