Football World Cup: Mexican fans take cut-out 'Javier' on trip of a lifetime

While most of Mexico are still celebrating their Football World Cup stunner over champions Germany, one particular wife is standing her ground.

A group of fans have been forced to improvise, after their friend was refused permission to attend the Russian tournament by his significant other.

The five men from Durango had been planning the roadie since the 2014 World Cup in Brazil - they even bought a run-down bus, painted it in Mexican colours and shipped it to Spain, before driving across Europe to their destination.

But at the last minute, Javier had his boarding pass cancelled.

"When she says 'no', it's no," he apologised. History doesn't quite record WHY he was grounded though.

Instead, his amigos are now totting a cardboard cut-out of their mate wearing a tee-shirt that states: "My wife didn't let me go."

Their adventures - and those of the cut-out - have been widely chronicled on social media. Cardboard Javier has been seen crowd-surfing, playing drinking games… even carousing with the local senoritas, which probably has him in even more trouble on the homefront.

That earthquake in Mexico after their game-winner against the Germans? Probably centred in Durango, where Javier is still trying to break the shackles.

Sigh!
