Kiwi golfers Ryan Fox and Tim Wilkinson have both made the cut at the US Open.

Fox is currently in an eight-way tie for 25th after a two-over round to sit five-over, while Wilkinson pared the final hole to squeeze inside the cut line at eight-over at Shinnecock Hills.

I played solid, same as yesterday," Fox said after his round.

"I gave myself a few chances. Didn't really hole too many putts but I kept it out of the long stuff and made a bunch of short par putts."

The 31-year-old Fox is nine shots behind world no 1 Dustin Johnson, who remains atop the leaderboard after he fired a superb round of three-under-par 67.

Former US Open winner fired a superb round of three-under-par 67 on Saturday (NZ time) and at four under he holds a four-shot cushion over Scott Piercy (71) and Charley Hofman (69) at even par.

Most of the world's best continued to struggle in testing conditions which included gusting winds, tough pin locations and the brutal, rolling terrain.

Those to miss the cut include Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and Sergio Garcia.
