IndyCar: Scott Dixon completes solid weekend in Detroit Dual

Scott Dixon's consistency shone again in Detroit, as the Kiwi bagged a fourth-place finish to complete a solid weekend.

Off the back of his first race win of 2018 on Sunday (NZ time), Dixon drove an uneventful second effort, jumping one spot from qualifying and scoring another decent haul of points to keep the Kiwi in second place in the championship.

American Ryan Hunter-Reay took the chequered flag, after teammate Alexander Rossi succumbed to growing pressure, gifting Hunter-Reay the lead with 10 laps remaining.

Leading the championship at the start of the race, Rossi dominated from pole position and seemed to have victory in sight, before his tyres began to fail with 12 laps to go.

Hunter-Reay applied the pressure and the Italian spun off, allowing 'Captain America' to capitalise and take his first race win in close to three years.

Australian Will Power came home second to leapfrog Dixon and Rossi in the championship standings, but with Rossi eventually recovering to 12th, Dixon's fourth place was enough to maintain second place, just five points adrift of Power.

The race was delayed a half hour, after the pace car hit the wall during the warm-up lap in an embarrassing gaffe.

The series heads to Texas next week.
