The Northern Stars are finally on the board in the ANZ Netball Premiership.

They held on to beat the Mainland Tactix 56-53 in Takanini on Monday night to snap a 12-match losing streak, stretching back to last season.

Goal-shoot Maia Wilson was the brightest of the Stars, converting 36 of her 40 shots to finish with a 90 percent success rate.

Wing defence Fa'amu Ioane was another stand-out for the hosts, claiming three critical interceptions on her way to being named MVP.

Ellie Bird was the Mainland's best on the evening, nailing 45 of her 51 shots on goal (88 percent).

The result isn’t enough to lift the Stars off the bottom of the premiership ladder, where they sit anchored in sixth place.
