The Warriors have been dealt a blow ahead of Friday's clash against the North Queensland Cowboys, with the withdrawal of winger David Fusitu'a.

The NRL's leading try-scorer will miss his first game of the season, after picking up an ankle injury during the captain's run in Townsville.

The 23-year-old has been in sublime form this season, scoring 15 tries in 13 games - including three in nine minutes during the Warriors' 34-14 win over the Manly Sea Eagles in Christchurch at the weekend.

He will be replaced on the right wing by Gerard Beale.

The injury is expected to rule Fusitu'a out of Tonga's match against Samoa next weekend in Sydney.

But it's not all bad news, with the club confirming that captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has recovered from his ankle injury and will lead the Warriors against the struggling Cowboys.

The fullback was injured against the Rabbitohs last month and has been recovering since.

The Cowboys have endured an underwhelming season to date, currently sitting in 14th place on the NRL ladder.

The fourth-placed Warriors will pay no attention to that, having traditionally struggled in Townsville in the past. Since 2002, the club has escaped with ajust one win - a 20-16 victory in 2014.

The match at 1300SMILES Stadium will kick off at 8 pm (NZ time).
