All Blacks centre Sonny Bill Williams has been among the sports stars to send best wishes to the 'First Baby', since Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern delivered a daughter on Thursday night.

"Blessings to our Prime Minister @jacindaardern on the birth of her healthy baby girl," he tweeted.

"Exciting times ahead, love to you and your whanau."

Earlier, NZ Rugby was quick to lay claim to the new Ardern-Gayford offspring, with the Black Ferns national women's team tweeting their best wishes and a picture of a toddler's All Blacks dress.

"We have one in her size! #FutureBlackFern" read the post.

Obviously, there are no hard feelings from the oval-ball code, after Ardern's election victory was partially blamed - in tongue-in-cheek fashion - for the All Blacks' 19-14 loss to the Wallabies last October.

At the time, some sources tried to make a thing of Ardern's rise to power, claiming the national team also went through one of their worst losing streaks in history - five consecutive tests - while New Zealand's first female PM, Jenny Shipley, was in office.
