The United States has been a fledgling rugby nation for 30 years, but one ESPN analyst has a quick fix that would see the Stars and Stripes dominate the world.

Senior writer Kevin Van Valkenburg is adamant that if you plucked the best talent in the NFL and added in a few scrubs, the United States would be so good the rest of the world would quit.

Van Valkenburg tweeted a theoretical team, including star running backs Leonard Fournette and Ezekiel Elliot, along with defensive monster JJ Watt after watching a college rugby game at his hairdressers.

When questioned in a retort by a keen rugby enthusiast who was pumping up the calibre of the All Blacks, Van Valkenburg fired back, "It's a serious insult to think any of those NZ dudes is as good an athlete as Fournette," he said.

The American's brash statements weren't well received by many punters, including Welsh rugby write Simon Thomas who claimed Van Valkenburg was both 'ignorant and arrogant'.
