England prop George Burgess will miss next weekend's test against the Kiwis in Denver due to injury.

The 26-year-old sustained a thigh injury during South Sydney's 42-24 win over the Parramatta Eels on Thursday and will be unable to travel to the US for the June 23 match.

Scott Taylor has replaced him in the 19-man squad.

The Kiwis meanwhile will name their squad on Sunday night at the conclusion of the NRL round.

Some uncapped players are expected to be named in Michael Maguire's squad due to injuries or defections to other countries.

Earlier in the week, Simon Mannering, Ben Matulino and Russell Packer all announced their retirement from international rugby league.

The Colorado Test at Mile High Stadium will be the first for new Kiwis coach Maguire as he looks to lead New Zealand in a new direction following last year's failure at the World Cup.

Meanwhile, former NRL forward Clint Newton will represent the Australian players' association in Denver.

Newton, who raised player welfare concerns over playing the match at the Mile High Stadium, will fly to the US in his role as Rugby League Players Association's general manager of stakeholder relations, and plans to speak with both Maguire and England boss Wayne Bennett.

"There's a good saying around - 'Never waste a good crisis,'" Newton told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"This is one of those occasions. The easy option would be to say, 'Hey, we've been kind of hurt by this, and now we don't want to play with you.' That goes directly against what our responsibility is, which is to continually represent the players."
