Former Kiwis captain Jesse Bromwich is in serious doubt for this month's controversial Denver test against England.

The Melbourne Storm prop left the field with a hamstring injury during Sunday's 32-16 NRL win over Brisbane Broncos.

Afterwards, Storm coach Craig Bellamy said it didn't look good.

"It's not just a small strain." saied Bellamy. "It's going to keep him out for a bit - it dosen't look like good news.

"Obviously Jess is really disappointed. It's been a disappointing year for him, but I know he'll work hard to get back as soon as he can."

Bromwich, 29, has already missed playing time this season with a knee injury.

His last appearance for New Zealand ended in disgrace, when he and teammate Kevin Proctor were filmed buying cocaine after an Anzac Test loss in Canberra last May.

The pair were suspended out of the Kiwis' disastrous Rugby League World Cup campaign, but new coach Michael Maguire had indicated they would likely return for the test against England on June 23.

Maguire is due to name his squad this week, but Bromwich's injury was the second major blow to his selection process this weekend.

On Friday night, flying Raiders winger Jordan Rapana was carted off Canberra Stadium with a torn hamstring. The initial prognosis was for eight weeks on the sidelines.
