Former Kiwis half Kieran Foran's miserable run with the Bulldogs has taken another turn for the worst.

The 27-year-old will miss the remainder of the side's 2018 NRL campaign with an injured toe.

Foran will undergo surgery to reconstruct the toe's ligaments after original treatment failed to fix the issue, the club confirmed in a statement.

He'll wear a moon-boot for six weeks before beginning rehab and eventually embarking on a full fitness program to prepare for the side's 2019 campaign.

Foran was a marquee signing for the Sydney-based club, which lured him away from the Warriors after a one-year stint in Auckland.

It's been a testing tenure in Canterbury so far for the former Manly star, whose impact has been limited by injury.

The struggling Bulldogs are currently anchored at 15th on the NRL ladder with just three wins from their 14 games to date.
