Rugby league: Warriors pull rug from Kiwis as injury and travel concerns mount - report

  • 16/06/2018

Don't expect a healthy helping of Warriors to be included in Michael Maguire's first Kiwis side for their United States adventure.

New Zealand play England in Denver next weekend, but NZME is reporting only four Warriors players will be released to play.

Adam Blair, Ken Maumalo, Peta Hiku and a returning Issac Luke will be named in the travelling squad on Sunday night, NZME reports.

Tohu Harris, Shaun Johnson and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck are among the heavy-hitters Warriors management are not making available.

The three high-profile stars have all had injury woes during the first half of the 2018 NRL season.

The club had previously stated only players who were 100 percent fit would be permitted to travel to the US.

Both Tuivasa-Sheck and Harris have decided to put club before country in this instance, which is why Johnson and Gerard Beale won't be risked by the club, NZME reports.

It's a further blow to the new Kiwi coach's first taste of international rugby league following the retirements of Simon Mannering, Russell Packer and Ben Mautilino earlier this week.

Reports out of Australia suggest Manly prop Martin Taupau and Roosters forward Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will also skip the Test due to the travel.
