The Wellington Phoenix have added two more players to their growing squad ahead of the 2018 A-League campaign.

New head coach Mark Rudan has recruited forward David Williams and midfielder Mitch Nichols, both former Socceroos.

Both Nichols and Williams are experienced campaigners, boasting totals of 219 and 148 A-League games respectively.

Rudan sees both players as crucial to the team's prospects next season.

"These two players are proven A-League competitors - as their statistics prove, they both can score goals, and they both are capable of a bit of x-factor which can change a game," said Rudan.

"But importantly for me, and right at the top of my player characteristics list, is leadership and experience."

Nichols said the chance to join Rudan in the NZ capital was the ideal next step for his career.

"Every time I came to Wellington I knew it was a special place with a special following and I’m looking forward to showing the fans what I can offer," said Nichols.

"I talked with Mark and wanted to be part of the project that Mark is building here in Wellington."

"I can’t wait to get in to the full swing of things, work hard and earn my place."

Williams echoed those sentiments, adding that the prospect of teaming up with Rudan was highly attractive.

"Every time I came to Wellington I knew it was a special place with a special following and I’m looking forward to showing the fans what I can offer," said Williams.

"I talked with Mark and wanted to be part of the project that Mark is building here in Wellington.

"I can’t wait to get in to the full swing of things, work hard and earn my place."
