Dame Valerie Adams has finished third in the latest Diamond League shot put competition in the Moroccan city of Rabat.

Adams' throw of 18.93m in the fifth round was her best distance in 2018, and her best since the birth of her daughter in October.

The competition was won by Germany's Christina Schwantiz who threw 19.40m. Aliona Dubitskaya of Belarus was second, 19cm behind the German.

Adams gave birth to her first child in October last year and returned to throw at the national track and field championships ahead of the Commonwealth Games in April.

The former world champion from New Zealand won silver at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April with 18.70m.

The double Olympic champion is based with her family in Switzerland, and her next Diamond League competition is in Monaco next week.
