Northern Districts Knights have confirmed John Bracewell as their new head coach.

The former New Zealand cricket spin bowler has a wealth of experience under his belt, including roles with the Blackcaps, Ireland, Auckland and Gloucester.

"I spent some time with the lads over the summer, working with coaches, and was very impressed with the athletic presentation of the players, and forward-thinking nature of the administration and support staff," said Bracewell.

"It was great that the courage of their conviction paid dividends. I'm really excited to be working with this organisation."

Graeme Aldridge and Matthew Horne will continue to deliver as specialist coaches across the men’s programmes, and Gareth Hopkins as the Knights T20 mens coach.

Chief executive Ben MacCormack is thrilled with the appointment.

"[Bracewell] obviously comes with a huge level of varied coaching experience from all across the world, he also feels connected to our philosophy of developing future Blackcaps."

The 60-year-old was a handy off-spinner for New Zealand during the 1980s, taking 102 wickets through 41 tests.
