Two second-half goals from Neymar and Roberto Firmino secured the South American giants a 2-0 win to advance to the quarter-final stage of the tournament on Tuesday morning (NZ time).
It extends Mexico's ignominious streak of being eliminated in the first knock-out match, which now extends back to 1994.
After a hard-fought first half that produced no goals, Neymar finally converted one of Brazil's scoring opportunities, starting the movement that ended with him sliding for a tap-in at close range.
The clincher came late in proceedings, as Firmino latched on to a rebound from a Neymar shot to secure the win.
Brazil will now advance to face Belgium in the quarter-finals.
