Everyone is jumping on the England Football World Cup bandwagon - even Andrew Gourdie.

The Newshub sports presenter is buzzing, after the English broke their penalty shoot-out curse against Colombia to advance to the quarter-finals on the weaker side of the tournament draw.

Can football be coming home?

"Any reason not to think that now?" Gourdie answers the question with a question.

"I'm absolutely pleased for England. It's a massive piece of history for them, they've got the belief now and there's no real reason, on this side of the draw, why they can't go to at least the next step.

"The concern now for England is that Sweden is a bit of a bogey team."

He also worries that the Three Lions were just a little quick to try closing up shop against the South Americans and it almost cost them.

"In terms of lessons from this morning's game, I thought England were by far the better team up until the 75th minute and at that point, they seemed to be playing for a 1-0 victory," says Gourdie. "They were defending within their own half.

"England just have to keep playing and keep believing - go for the 2-0 and kill the game.

"If there's one bad thing to come out of the game, they've now got a lot of tired bodies and it's now all about recovery in time for that quarter-final."
