Football World Cup: Paul Pogba dedicates French win to rescued Thai youth team

World Cup final-bound Paul Pogba had dedicated France's 1-0 semi-final win over Belgium to the 12 rescued members of the trapped Thai youth football team.

Royal Thai Navy Seals confirmed on Wednesday (NZT) that the rescue operation was complete, after three days of heroic efforts by divers to carry those trapped out alive.

The 12 boys, aged 11-16, and their 25-year-old coach are part of the Wild Boars Football Club in Thailand. They were trapped due to severe flooding more than two weeks ago.

Pogba, who played a key role in the French victory, took to Twitter less than an hour after the final whistle to praise the youngsters.

"This victory goes to the heroes of the day, well done boys, you are so strong," Pogba wrote.

The 25-year-old plys his trade at club level with Manchester United, who has also stepped in, inviting the boys to Old Trafford next season.

This came off the back of Fifa offering to fly the team to Russia for the World Cup final, but doctors requested they stay in hospital for at least a week to ensure they are in good health.

"MUFC is relieved to learn that the 12 footballers and their coach trapped in a cave in Thailand are now safe," Manchester United has said in a statement.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected. We would love to welcome the team from Wild Boars Football Club and their rescuers to Old Trafford this coming season."

England defender Kyle Walker has also expressed his relief the team has been rescued, offering to send the boys replica England shirts.
