Kiwi golfer Ryan Fox and rocketed into contention at the Scottish Open after with one of the best scores of the third round.

Fox was sitting in a tie for 40th at the start of play but fired a seven-under-par 63 today on Sunday (NZ time) to sit in a six-way tie for second, one shot behind leader Jen Dantorp of Sweden on 12 under.

The 31-year-old took advantage of a favourable wind on the back nine to make his charge up the leaderboard.

He produced three birdies and an eagle in the last six holes - including a two-putt birdie on the 18th, having almost driven the green.

It means Fox will play in the final group tomorrow alongside Dantrop, as he looks to go one better than last week and claim a maiden European Tour title and the million dollars that comes with it.

"Very happy, I played decent over the first few rounds and didn't get much going with my energy levels down from last week which is understandable, but I got a good night's sleep which helped," said Fox.

"I wasn't thinking about anything, I was just trying to go out there and make a score and thankfully I did that pretty well."

Former champion Rickie Fowler, along with Matthew Fitzpatrick, Scott Hend, Marcel Siem, and Alexander Bjork are tied with Fox on 12-under.
