Kiwi golfers Michael Hendry and Ryan Fox have both struggled in their first rounds at The Open Championship at Carnoustie.

Hendry is in a tie for 73rd after he shot a two-over par 73 in Scotland, while Fox is in a tie for 94th, one shot back.

Hendry got off to the worst possible start, bogeying his first two holes on the dry course. He fought back on the front nine with a further bogey and two birdies to sit one over halfway through his round.

Two birdies and two bogeys had him sitting at one over, but a bogey on the 18th hole saw him slip down the leaderboard.

Fox carded three bogeys in the front night, and things started better on the back nine with two birdies on the 11th and 14th holes. He then bogeyed on the 16th and 17th to fall back to three over.

American Kevin Kisner is the clubhouse leader at five under par.

The 34-year-old carded an eagle and four birdies in a five-under 66.

There are 156 players aiming to win the 147th Open, which is being staged at Carnoustie for the first time since 2007.
