The women's Black Sticks have begun their World Cup campaign with a come-from-behind 4-2 win over Belgium on Monday morning (NZ time) in London.

New Zealand trailed 2-1 at halftime after Belgium capitalised on some poor defence late in the second quarter.

Louise Versavel and Jill Boon cancelled out Kelsey Smith's earlier goal as the 13th ranked Belgium's took a surprise lead over the Commonwealth Games champions.

Belgium's lead didn’t last long as the Black Sticks re-took the lead with two quick goals after the break to Shiloh Gloyn and Olivia Merry.

Merry then added a second in the final quarter from a penalty corner to secure the win.

New Zealand now sit atop their pool which also features Australia and Japan. The Hockeyroos beat the Japanese in their opening match yesterday.

The Blacks Sticks face Japan in their next game on Wednesday.
