Motorsport: 'Mad Mike' Whiddett still unbeaten after Japan pro-drift second round

  • 10/07/2018

Kiwi driver 'Mad Mike' Whiddett has continued his perfect start to the 2018 Formula Drift Japan Championship, claiming victory in Round Two at Ebisu last weekend.

Fresh off his success at the opening event at Suzuka in May, Whiddett was in top form again in the latest round, defeating Aussie rival Nick Wilson in the final.

Officials and drivers were plagued with visibility problems in foggy and wet conditions.

"It was so cool to have an Australian final battle," said Whiddett, 37. "I think this might've been the first time ever in Japan's history of a pro-drift event to have an Aussie and a Kiwi in the final battle.

"Now we've got a pretty healthy points lead heading into Round Three at Fuji, which I'm really looking forward to. It's higher speed, which is my specialty and is what I enjoy the most.

"I'm really looking forward to that."
