NRL: Warriors banking on experience to halt late-season slide

The Warriors are banking on experience to change their NRL fortunes, with big names Adam Blair, Issac Luke and Tohu Harris named to face the St George-Illawarra Dragons in Wollongong.

The trio missed the lacklustre 36-12 defeat to the Gold Coast Titans, a performance that coach Steve Kearney blasted as "soft".

It's a timely boost for the Warriors forward pack for a showdown with a Dragons pack littered with State of Origin and test stars - including Kiwi international and 2019 Warriors signing Leeson Ah Mau.

If you're feeling a sense of deja vu with Harris and Luke, it's with good reason. Both Harris and Luke were named to take on the Titans, but didn't pass fitness tests on their injured knee and calf respectively.

If he takes the field on Saturday, it will end a frustrating stint on the sideline for second-rower Harris, who hasn't played a game in the month of July.

He takes the place of an unlucky Joseph Vuna, who despite being one of the few standouts against the Gold Coast has been relegated to reserves.

Luke takes back the dummy-half duties from Jazz Tevaga, while Blair's served his one-game suspension for his late tackle against the Storm and slots back into the number 13 jersey, with fellow veteran Simon Mannering back to the interchange.

Kearney's resisted making any other changes to the side to face the club's traditional bogey team at the venue that caused them the most headaches.

While the Warriors are winless in 10 attempts at the 'Gong, they did end their losing streak to the Dragons, when the two sides met at Mt Smart in April.

After setting the early season pace, both sides are in need of a form boost with the finals in sight, with matching records of one win from their last four games.

The Dragons are clinging to a place inside the top four, while the eighth-placed Warriors still hope to lock their playoff berth with five rounds remaining.
