Former Auckland coach Wayne Pivac has been confirmed to take over from Warren Gatland as head coach of Wales after next year's Rugby World Cup.

Pivac was one of three Kiwis reported to be on Wales radar, alongside former Chiefs coach Dave Rennie and current Crusaders coach Scott Robertson, but his impressive run with Scarlets has seen him land the job.

Under Pivac's guidance, Scarlets won the Pro12 competition in 2017 and finished runner up to Leinster this season.

It's Pivac's second taste of international rugby coaching, after he took charge of Fiji from 2004-07.

Gatland will stand down from the Welsh job as their longest-serving and most successful coach, and is a contender to be a future All Blacks head coach.
