Wimbledon: Kiwi Michael Venus beaten in men's doubles final

  • 15/07/2018

Kiwi Michael Venus and South Africa's Raven Klaasen have been beaten in the men's doubles final at Wimbledon.

The pair lost 6-3 6-7 6-3 5-7 7-5 to American duo Mike Bryan and Jack Sock in a dramatic final on Centre Court.

It was a tremendous effort for Venus and Klaasen to make the final, having to play two five-set matches on the way.

The match lasted three hours and 39 minutes.

Venus was aiming to become the first New Zealander since Anthony Wilding in 1914 to win an adult title at the oldest tennis tournament in the world.

The 30-year-old Venus also made the mixed doubles semi-final at Wimbledon.

In total he has pocketed NZ$247,000 of prize money for his efforts.

The ranking points picked up for making this final, should ensure Venus and Klaasen are able to keep playing in the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments for probably another year.
