Novak Djokovic clawed his way to a two sets to one lead over great rival Rafael Nadal before their Wimbledon semi-final was paused on a knife-edge, after being made to wait to take to centre court.

With the clock slipping past 11pm (local time)- the official curfew for action at the All England Club - Djokovic survived two set points in a gripping tiebreak to edge ahead 6-4 3-6 7-6 (11-9) after almost three hours of absorbing play.

Battle will resume on Saturday with the Serb needing one more set to book a showdown with South African eighth seed Kevin Anderson - who earlier won the tournament's longest-ever semi-final against American John Isner that finished 26-24 in the fifth set.

Anderson needed six hours and 36 minutes to see off Isner 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (5-7) 6-7 (9-11) 6-4 26-24 in a truly epic encounter featuring 102 aces and 96 service games.
