An Auckland boxer has passed away after collapsing during a routine training session in Wellsford on Saturday.

She was airlifted to Auckland City Hospital after feeling unwell and was subsequently put on life support, said Auckland City Police Detective Senior Sergeant Lloyd Schmid.

Ms.Brown, 31, died at 7:45am today and the matter has been referred to the coroner.

Married with two children, Ms Brown was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2011, while living in Queensland.

She told The Townsville Bulletin that experience made her look at life in a new way.

"When I beat it, I starting feeling really different. I guess it helped me get into boxing, because it's very confronting."

Following her cancer scare, she joined Townsville's Cranbrook's Fighting Gym in a bid to lose weight and ultimately dropped from 120kg down to 60kg.

The Townsville Bulletin reports that she didn't initially want to get in the ring, but decided in 2014 to start boxing seriously for a charity match that was raising money for cancer research.

She won a silver medal at the Queensland Golden Gloves tournament in Brisbane in 2013.

She had only recently moved back to New Zealand from Australia.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help the family with travel and medical costs.

Tributes have flowed in since the news of Ms. Brown's passing.

"She definitely was loved by all and like no other she had a heart of gold," wrote Rosemary Reynolds.

"May her beautiful soul rest easy and she will never be forgotten. So much love and respect for her".

"Sending love and strength to all the family... Her smile still shines through," added Corinne Chappell.
