Boxing: Team Parker opt not to appeal loss to Dillian Whyte

Team Joseph Parker will not lodge an appeal to overturn their fighter's loss to Dillian Whyte.

Promoters Duco Events were considering an official complaint over the judges' scorecards, specifically relating to Parker's knockdown in the second round, which seemed to stem from a head-butt.

Scorecards show all three judges awarded that round to Whyte 10-8, instead of a likely 10-9 result for Parker.

That three-point turnaround would have changed the overall outcome to a draw, instead of a unimous-points loss.

But manager David Higgins has confirmed they won't pursue the matter any further.

"We've taken stock and we've decided that we'll take the high ground, and we're not going to appeal," said Higgins.

"We're just going to get on with our job, but we’re pleased we made some noise about it, because, frankly, it was a disgrace.

"The headbutt did change the course of the fight. Points should have been deducted the other way, that's a fact."

Parker admitted he had experienced some dizziness in the dressing room immediately after the fight as a result of the clash of heads, saying he felt like he was "in a dream".

"Yesterday we had an MRI scan, we're just waiting for the results," said Parker. "Just to make sure that everything's clear."

The results of that test won't have any impact on whether or not they continue with the appeal.

"We're dropping it and moving," said Higgins.
