English Premier League: New Arsenal era starts with defeat to Manchester City

  • 13/08/2018

Unai Emery's Arsenal coaching tenure has begun in the worst way possibe, going down 2-0 to defending English Premier League champions Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling got City off to a flying start with a stunning strike after 14 minutes, as City dominated proceedings at the Emirates Stadium.

Bernado Silva doubled City's advantage in the second half, as the visitors cruised to victory in the opening round of the season.

City dominated much of the match, holding more of the possession and having twice as many shots on target as the Gunners.

It could easily have been more, were it not for some excellent saves from Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech, who at one point denied Sergio Aguero, who was through clear on goal.

Elsewhere, Liverpool beat West Ham 4-0 and Southampton and Burnley drew 0-0.
