Brendon Hartley's Formula 1 future is secure according to those on the inside of the glamour motorsport circuit.

Sky Sports UK commentator Ted Kravitz spoke to Hartley's boss Franz Tost this week, with Toro Rosso team principal indicating the Kiwi's seat was safe for 2019.

"He (Tost) said if Brendon Hartley continues not to crash, to go fast and to score points he will be in the Toro Rosso next year," Kravitz said during the broadcast.

"I know that's three big if's but let’s hope that Brendon, after a thoroughly invigorating summer break, let's hope that translates to some good performances because they will guarantee him a seat with Toro Rosso next year," Kravitz added.

Hartley's managed two points in his debut season and will be looking to add to that tally at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix.

New Zealand's ninth formula 1 driver was off the pace at the famous track in Spa placing 15th and 17th in practice one and two.

"It was nice to take my first laps around Spa in a Formula 1 car after the summer break," Hartley said.

"It definitely woke me up going through Eau Rouge flat out the first and second lap!"

"The day went pretty smooth without any technical issues with the car.

"There's plenty of data to look into, but unfortunately it seems both cars were a bit off the pace.

"We definitely have some work to do overnight, but it’s once again quite tight from where we are to the top 10."
