This year's Farah Palmer Cup will feature 12 teams for the first time in over a decade with Taranaki joining the fold.
The women's competition's now just two shy of the 14 sides contesting the men's Mitre 10 Cup.
However there are a couple of well, smaller reasons, this year's battle for provincial supremacy will be bigger than ever before.
