Mitre 10 Cup: Vaea Fifita leads Wellington past Otago

  • 19/08/2018

Wellington stormed to a dominant 34-16 Mitre 10 Cup win over Otago at Westpac Stadium on Sunday

Two Wes Goosen tries saw the Lions take an early lead that they never relinquished, with Malo Tuitama adding two from the other wing to put the result beyond doubt.

Ousted All Blacks forward Vaea Fifita had an impressive outing, prominent in the loose, as he returned to the flanker role the national selectors favour him in.

Both Goosen's tries came off the back of strong Fifita runs, precisely the antidote that could soon see him back in the NZ frame.

Ex-All Blacks hooker Asafo Aumua also earned some valuable game-time off the bench in his return from a lengthy injury absence.

Kurt Hammer was the lone try-scorer for Otago.
