The Project: 'Mighty Mike' van Gerwen takes darts challenge

  • 03/08/2018

World darts number one Michael van Gerwen insists his sport would not look out of place at the Olympics.

When the Dutchman, known as 'Mighty Mike', dropped in on The Project on Thursday, he probably wondered what he had let himself in for.

Whether it was technical advice from Ali Mau or career advice from Cal Wilson, van Gerwen dealt with the cross-examination expertly - and then wowed the crowd with his darts skills.

"Shooting and couple of other things are Olympic sports, so why not darts?" he said. "You never know in the future.

"If people say is it a physical sport for the Olympics, I say no, but I see other sports there, so why not?"

"It's like tiny archery," suggested host Jesse Mulligan helpfully.

"Miniature javelin," added Jeremy Elwood.
