The New Zealand Breakers have released American import Jerrelle Benimon three weeks after announcing his signing.
The centre was due to start at the club this week but personal issues have kept him at home.
Club General Manager Dillon Boucher said they had no qualms in allowing Benimon out of his contract.
"Family plays a huge part in the culture here at the breakers and when we heard from Jerrelle that he was dealing with some family issues we had no hesitation in supporting his request to postpone coming to New Zealand," Boucher said in a cub statement.
"After further talks we have mutually agreed to release Jerrelle and move forward with a replacement to complete our roster."
The Breakers head to Phoenix in October to take on the Suns in the NBA pre-season.
