Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker has reached out to an unexpected source for support, as he tries to resurrect his world championship boxing hopes.

Speaking at the 25th anniversary celebrations for the NZ First political party, Parker admitted an ongoing dialogue with former undisputed world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis.

Lewis was the last man to hold all the main world titles in that division, something English countryman Anthony Joshua is seeking to repeat in a showdown with American Deontay Wilder.

By a strange twist of fate - or perhaps not - Lewis also repulsed former Kiwi contender David Tua in a 2000 world heavyweight title fight. Tua was trained by Kevin Barry, who now oversees Parker.

Apparently, Lewis, 53, has followed Parker's career closely and publicly highlighted flaws in his technique.

After losing to Briton Dillian Whyte in July - the second straight loss on his previously unblemished record - Parker approached Lewis for advice.
