New Zealand will head into the final day of the Eisenhower Trophy with a three-shot lead, after a strong third-round performance in Ireland on Saturday morning (NZ time).

The team of Daniel Hillier, Denzel Ieremia and Kerry Mountcastle combined for a third-round total of 10 under par, moving them to 30-under with one round left at the world amateur men's teams golf tournament.

The Kiwis headed into the round with a one-shot lead over Thailand, Ireland and Denmark, but extended that buffer with another strong performance.

Ieremia shot a seven-under round, which was backed up by a three-under by Hillier and two-under by Mountcastle.

New Zealand lead Thailand, USA and Spain by three shots, while Italy and Demark are four behind the Kiwis.

The final round will be completed on Sunday.

New Zealand's only previous win at the Eisenhower Trophy was when Michael Campbell, Stephen Scahill, Phil Tataurangi and Grant Moorhead lifted the trophy in Vancouver, Canada in 1992.
