New Zealander rally driver Hayden Paddon has made a statement on the World Rally Championship (WRC) circuit, with his first podium finish of the season in Turkey.

The Hyundai driver navigated the tricky Rally Turkey conditions to finish third in just his fifth event of the year.

Paddon, along with co-driver Seb Marshall, finished 1m 46.3s behind Estonian Ott Tanak, who took his third successive world rally championship win, with Finland's Jari-Matti Latvala 22.3s behind his Toyota teammate.

"I am really happy to take our first podium of the season," said Paddon. "It has been a very tough rally.

"We have adopted a particular strategy this weekend that has required us to hold back and be patient.

"Thankfully that approach has paid off and we have been rewarded with third place - it's been a while since we've been on the podium."

The Cantabrian now sits 10th on the WRC standings.

The next WRC event is the Wales Rally GB in early October.
