Netball: Silver Ferns lose defender Temalisi Fakahokotau for rest of 2018 season

Silver Ferns defender Temalisi Fakahokotau has been ruled out for the remainder of 2018, after injuring her right knee.

The 23-year-old ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the national netball team’s preparation for the Quad Series, which begins against England on Saturday.

Fakahokotau was a standout for the Mainland Tactix in the ANZ Premiership, leading defensive stats in intercepts, deflections and rebounding.

Coach Noeline Taurua said the injury was a big blow for both player and team.

"Tenalisi is an outstanding player, both on and off the court, and the loss of her defensive angles will be missed by the team," Taurua said on Wednesday.

As cover, Taurua has called in Northern Mystics defender Michaela Sokolich-Beatson, who was part of the Commonwealth Games squad in April.

First pass on Saturday is at 4:45pm from Auckland’s Spark Arena.
