Cricket: Blackcaps bowler Ish Sodhi shows off rapping skills

Blackcaps spin-bowler Ish Sodhi is currently in the prime of his cricketing career and one of the best bowlers in the world, but he may have his post-career plans already sorted.

The 25-year-old is a keen rapper and videos have emerged on social media of Sodhi doing a cricket version of Vanilla Ice's 'Ice Ice Baby', entitled 'Ice Ice Sodhi'.

The first video published was from batsmen Ross Taylor, with another posted on the Blackcaps facebook page.

Speaking to RadioLIVE's Sunday Sport, Sodhi said he had just started to get back into rapping.

"Just something I've always kind of done for a bit of comedy for mates," he said.

"I stopped doing it a lot when I started playing cricket professionally, but I'm finding there's a lot of downtime on tours, so I started writing some stuff down on my notes on i-phone.

"When there's a bit of time to relax, I bring them out and it gets a few laughs from the boys, and keeps things light on tour."

Sodhi said there is a chance the public would get to hear more of his raps in the future.

"We'll see how it goes on the next tour. If I can sit down on the plane and have a few things to write down, hopefully we can have a bit of fun with it.

"I guess I've always been pretty good at rhyming words. Some of them take five minutes and others take a couple of days, it just depends on what the content is.

"I sound like a proper artist, don't I?"

The Blackcaps are back in action next month when they face Pakistan in three T20's, ODI's and tests in the United Arab Emirates.

If healthy, Sodhi will likely be selected, as he is currently ranked the third best T20 bowler in the world.
