Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has tweeted out his denial of rape allegations made against him.

The Juventus striker is accused of attacking Kathryn Mayorga in a Las Vegas hotel in 2009.

It was reported that Ms Mayorga reached a settlement with Ronaldo for the non-disclosure of the allegations, but her lawyers are now seeking to have that agreement declared void.

"I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense," Ronaldo tweeted.

"My clear conscious will thereby allow me to wait with tranquility the results of any and all investigations," Ronaldo added in a second tweet.

Las Vegas police confirmed they would re-open the investigation into Ronaldo at the request of Ms Mayorga.
