Football: Fan gets selfie with Ronaldo, misses out on Mourinho

One fan enjoyed an up-close-and-personal moment with football star Ronaldo, but thousands of others seemingly missed out on a similar encounter with Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho.

The Portugese pair crossed paths at Old Trafford on Wednesday (NZ time), when Ronaldo's Juventus club side beat United 1-0 in a Champions League clash.

As the teams left the field at the end of the encounter, a pair of pitch invaders lunged at Ronaldo, seeking an audience with arguably the world's greatest player.

The forward, who had paused to applaud the Manchester United fans, took the intrusion in good spirits. As security wrestled one man back to the side-lines, Ronaldo spent a couple of seconds taking a selfie with the other, before returning his phone and waving to the crowd.

The player has been the subject of more unwanted attention lately, with historical rape allegations resurfacing from nine years ago.

Earlier, Mourinho revealed he had forsaken the team bus and simply walked to the ground among the spectators, unmolested.

"The hotel is just around the corner," he explained in his pre-game interview. "The players are in the bus for 45 minutes.

"I walked, with a hoody, in the middle of the fans - nobody recognised me. I took two minutes."

Manchester United were fined 15,000 euros last week, after arriving late for goal-less Champions league draw against Valencia at the same venue.
