Formula One: Brendon Hartley 11th, as Kimi Raikkonen wins United States Grand Prix

Kiwi Formula One driver Brendon Hartley has finished 11th at the US Grand Prix in Texas, finishing one spot off the race points, as Kimi Raikkonen claimed his first race-win in over five years.

Hartley started the race in 20th as he was handed a grid penalty for making an engine change before the race.

The 28-year-old climbed up to eighth midway through the race before eventually settling for 11th at the Circuit of the Americas.

"It was a good race. I'm pretty happy with that," Hartley told Sky Sports UK.

"I did some good passes, had a great first lap, P10 was too far away.

"It is annoying to be one place out of the points. Starting from last you always think about what could have been.

"I'm having to answer questions about my future ever week which is getting increasingly annoying. I've been reading in the media I need to beat my teammate [Pierre Gasly].

"I was ahead in Singapore, I was ahead in Russia before the car broke down, in Suzuka in qualifying and I was ahead today, so we'll see what happens."

The race marked exactly one year since the Manawatu driver made his debut in Formula One.

But, the day belonged to Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen who earned his first race win since the Australian Grand Prix in 2013.

It was his first win in 113 races, the longest period between wins in history

"Thank you, f****** finally," Raikkonen said to his team over the radio as he cruised back to the pits.

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton's quest for a fifth Formula One title will have to wait one more week after his third-place finish.

Hamilton finished third behind Max Verstappen finished and Raikkonen, with championship rival Sebastian Vettel in fourth.

If Hamilton finishes seventh or better in Mexico next week, he will join Juan Manuel Fangio with five Formula One titles.
