New Zealand golfer Lydia Ko has finished in a tie for sixth at the Swinging Skirts LPGA tournament in Taiwan.

Ko started the day tied for third, but her final-round even-par 72 included five birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey on the penultimate hole. which cost her a chance at the title.

The 21-year-old was tied for second, when disaster struck at the Ta Shee Golf and Country Club in Taoyuan City.

On the par-four 17th, she needed six shots to eventually get the ball into the hole, after finding a bunker with her drive and then missing the green with her approach shot.

Ko's round got off to a bad start, when she bogeyed two of the first three holes. She then birdied the sixth, before ending the front nine with her third bogey.

But the Kiwi clawed her way back into contention with back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th, and landed another one on the 14th to set up a thrilling finish.

Victory wasn't meant to be though, as her 17th-hole struggles saw her finish six shots behind American winner Nelly Korda.

Korda shot a flawless four-under-par 68 in the final round to win her maiden LPGA title by two strokes.

Meanwhile, fellow Kiwi Ryan Fox shot a four-over 76 in the final round at the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in China, to finish tied for 30th.
