Kiwi golfer Ryan fox has surged into the top 10 after the second round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.

The 31-year-old carded a five-under 67 on Friday (NZ time) and is tied for eighth, four shots behind leaders Andrea Pavan and Lucas Bjerregaard.

It was a shaky round overall for Fox, but he improved on his one-under first round score which helped him climb seven spots on the leaderboard.

Starting on the back nine, Fox produced birdies at the 12th and 13th holes, before he bogeyed the 15th, and then double-bogeyed the 18th to sit at even par at the turn.

Things then improved for Fox, as he got an eagle at the par-five third to go along with birdies on the first, fourth, sixth and seventh holes.

Elsewhere, Danny Lee is currently in a tie for 14th in the first PGA Tour event of the new season.
