A spectator has been injured, after being hit by a wayward shot from defending champion Tyrrell Hatton on Day One of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland on Friday (NZ time).

The female fan was pictured bleeding from the head, after being hit by Hatton's tee shot on the 15th hole at Kingsbarns.

She was treated on the course by paramedics, before being taken by buggy to the medical centre on site.

The incident comes the week after Corine Remande was reportedly blinded in one eye at the Ryder Cup in France, after being struck by a tee shot hit by Brooks Koepka - who is also competing in the Dunhill tournament.

The Egyptian spectator told BBC Sport that she could have died, if the ball had missed her right eye and hit the side of her head.

"The doctor said immediately to my husband that it was a very big explosion in my eye and it was impossible for me now to see again with this eye," she said.

"I don't know how to live with only one eye. I like walking, sport, going to the gym and playing golf."

Kiwi Ryan Fox is also competing in the tournament and he's in a tie for 15th in the tournament after the first round.

Fox carded a one-under 71 to sit three shots behind leaders Australian Marcus Fraser and England's Matt Wallace
